About the Event
We all teach navigation, but how do we do this? I’ve seen really good examples of teaching navigation indoors, but it’s not what it’s all about. I’ve seen some great orienteering influenced navigation lessons, but it’s not what it’s all about. I’ve seen some wonderful books, online talks, and magazine articles about teaching navigation, but it’s not what it's all about.
This workshop takes you through a step by step approach to teaching navigation ‘on the hill’, real, practical navigation, with clear progressions, target setting and outcomes.
The workshop has been developed on the back of 14 years teaching navigation in schools, both in the classroom and on the hill. Followed by 16 years of teaching navigation from beginner level to MIA level whilst working at Plas y Brenin the Outdoor National Centre.
Come and join me to work through a, step by step, practical way of teaching navigation on the hill. We’ll use a selection of maps and we’ll think about the use of mobile phones too. We'll be on the hill whatever the weather so come prepared for a hill walk in the prevailing conditions. You'll need sheet 17 and a compass. It'll be interesting to see who's using which navigation apps on their phone too.
This workshop is eligible for one CPD point for MTA, AMI or BAIML.
