About the Event

This one day workshop will take place in steep ground on the north side of Cader Idris. It will be a practical day during which we will investigate and dynamically risk assess the various hazards found in our hills. We’ll take time out to consider the what if’s and walk through emergency procedures. We do this in locations where there is phone reception and in areas where there is no phone reception. Whilst this is not a first aid course, I am an experienced first aid trainer and will be able to help you prioritise your actions should the worst happen.

This confidence building workshop has been developed on the back of 14 years working as a teacher running school visits followed by 16 years training and assessing up to MIA (MCI) level at Plas y Brenin, the National Outdoor Centre.

The aim of the day is to take away some of the anxiety you may be feeling about having to deal with these situations as a mountain leader and give you a series of practical, rational and logical steps to follow.

There is a Confidence with Contours workshop running on the day after this workshop which might be of interest too. If you are considering staying over in Dolgellau; I'll be staying at the Plas Isa bunkhouse which is highly recommended. Further to that I’ll be doing an evening talk about my bikepacking adventures whilst in Dolgellau on one of the evenings adjacent to these workshops.

This workshop will give a CPD point for MTA or AMI.
