About the Event
Updated and made more practical for 2025. The Teaching and Learning element will be found on my Patreon page from now on. In 2024 Mountain Training updated the walking qualification syllabuses. They improved the section on leadership. This workshop is aimed at those who already hold the ML, HML or LL Qualifications or are working towards them and those who train and assess these qualifications. The aim is to get under the skin of the changes, see how they look and feel ‘on the hill’ and then build on our leadership techniques.Â
We start with an indoor session brainstorming the characteristics of good leadership. Then we get out on a walk (it'll be lowland leader terrain around Betws y Coed) to translate these into leadership behaviours. Armed with this experience we then visit some theoretical models of leadership including the INSPIRE model as used by Mountain Training. All this will then be related to the walking qualification syllabi and how leadership might be demonstrated, trained and assessed ‘on the hill’.
We’ll then take a look at different ways of walking. For example, why it's good for people to walk in the rain, when it's dark, in mud, in the woods and even uphill and much more besides.
Attendees will leave the workshop with two action plans one based on leadership suited to their own needs and one based on improving their own knowledge of why walking us good for us.
The workshop will be run from the classroom above Alpkit in Betws y Coed. Alpkit kindly offer attendees on these workshops a 10% discount in store. You will need a packed lunch drinks and be equipped to go for a walk in the prevailing conditions. The group is limited to 9 people so that we can have deep discussions in groups of three.
There is one CPD point for MTA, AMI and BAIML members.
